The Industry Problem

Why drivers are leaving Uber.

Drivers who built Uber's network are seeing their earnings eroded by an algorithm designed to maximise platform profit — not driver pay.

Issue 01

Unpredictable commission cuts

Uber's algorithm dynamically adjusts its take per ride. A rider may pay $40 while the driver receives $18 to $25. Drivers cannot predict earnings from one trip to the next.

Rider pays $40 — driver earns $18

Issue 02

Upfront pricing hides the real split

Uber shows riders one price and calculates driver pay separately. Even when traffic is heavy, routes are longer, or surge is active — driver pay may barely increase while Uber absorbs the difference.

Surge pays riders more, not drivers

Issue 03

Acceptance rate pressure

Declining trips affects driver standing — fewer quality offers, reduced bonuses, and deprioritised matching. Drivers feel forced to accept unprofitable rides to protect their position in the algorithm.

Refuse a trip, get penalised

Issue 04

Hidden surge absorption

When demand spikes, riders are charged surge prices. But a growing share of that premium is absorbed by the platform rather than passed to the driver doing the work.

Customers pay more. Drivers see less.

Issue 05

Bonus threshold manipulation

Drivers report that ride flow visibly slows near bonus thresholds. Complete 39 trips when the bonus unlocks at 40 and requests seem to disappear. Psychological design over fair reward.

Incentives designed to frustrate

Issue 06

Driver oversupply by design

Uber benefits from more drivers online — faster pickups, lower surge obligations, more competition among drivers. The result is fragmented demand and lower per-driver earnings.

More drivers, less pay per driver

About Fluw

Built in Toronto.
Built on fairness.

Fluw was founded by Ahmed Abdullah, a Computer Science student at York University's Lassonde School of Engineering, after watching Toronto's ride sharing drivers be systematically underpaid by platforms that take up to 35% of every fare — while hiding the true split from both drivers and riders.

The premise is straightforward. The algorithm should serve the driver, not the other way around. Fluw replaces opaque commission structures with a simple subscription model. Drivers know exactly what they pay, set their own rates, and keep everything else.

We're not trying to be a cheaper Uber. We're building the fair and transparent alternative — where drivers control their income, riders see the full picture, and nothing is hidden behind an algorithm optimised for platform revenue.

Fluw is currently in early launch across the Greater Toronto Area, with York University as our pilot community. We're growing one honest ride at a time.

Transparency over opacity

Riders see exactly what the driver earns. Drivers see exactly what the platform takes. No algorithmic black boxes, no hidden calculations.

Driver control

Pro subscribers set their own per-km and per-minute rates. No rate card handed down from above. Your vehicle, your labour, your price.

Fixed over variable

A flat monthly subscription is honest. A dynamic commission algorithm that quietly extracts more every quarter is not. We chose simplicity.

Community first

We would rather have 200 drivers earning well and staying long-term than 2,000 drivers burned out and quitting. Loyalty over growth.
